Nature Center Live in Harmony with Nature | ||
| ||
HistoryBear Springs Blossom Nature Center was built in 1995 by Peter & Marianne Bonenberger, a couple from Germany.They provide guided tours, give lectures to an international audience and maintain the preserve and the trails. The property was originally part of 'overgrazed' Bear Springs Ranch. Education of the Environment is very important to us. Learn to understand Nature - live in Harmony with Nature. After years of restoration many different Nature trails invite the interested public to enjoy the beauty of Nature. BSBNCG is a charitable Not-For-Profit organization 501(c)(3) We all work WITHOUT pay, donate time and money to protect Nature for the next generation and to give information to all who are interested in Nature! 125 acre of Texas Hill County pasture are designated as a wildlife and native plant sanctuary and outdoor classroom. BSBNCG is protecting six Golden Cheeked Warbler habitats. A new building is planned to provide larger exhibit space, more parking spots and allow for expanded programming opportunities. The Nature Center works together with the Natural Area Preservation Area, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Environmental Defense, and the Audubon Society of San Antonio, providing members with a wider range of programs and services for all ages. Vice president Bob Taylor works for NASA, Rob McCorkle for Texas Parks and wildlife - they both provide many good informations. FacilitiesOur present facility house displays
on local flora and fauna as well as changing seasonal exhibits. We maintain over 9 miles of trails on Bear Springs Blossom. It is a lot of work, but it is wonderful to see how Nature can be restored. This refuge is now home to a variety of native wildlife species – over 88 bird species have been sighted on the property. 6 pairs of the endangered Golden cheeked Warbler found a home and raise here their young ones. More than 30 grass species found a place to survive. Outdoor gardens provide opportunities for visitors to view wildflowers and herbs, birds and butterflies in season. ActivitiesWe offer a year-round schedule of educational programs for all ages - online and locally. Lectures and field trips are available to adults and students on a wide range of natural history topic and environmental issues. For the classroom teacher, we offer a wide selection of educational programs both at the Nature Center and as outreach programs in the schools.
Seasonal Nature walks for all ages are
offered throughout the year. Wildflower walks, Fall foliage walks, native grass workshops and early morning
bird walks provide year-round entertainment as well as first-rate
learning experiences. During the summer months, evening Nature walks
provide an opportunity to learn about nocturnal creatures.
Bear Springs Blossom is open to the public for guided tours and other programs.
This provides an opportunity to educate people about species conservation.
"We want people to see all variations of Nature, particularly those that make them go 'wow'", says Peter Bonenberger. "It reminds them that Nature is fascination and there are wonders in it, like orchids without leaves, the rare Texas Madrone or
the endangered Golden cheeked Warbler. We hope that seeing well cared for animals and plants will make people think more about Nature and the fact that
it is a good thing to preserve."
Nature can excist without humans, but humans cannot excist without Nature.
"What we do pales in comparison to what people could do," says Marianne.
"Ensuring that people care about Nature goes hand in hand with conserving it.
Because if people don't care, the other part is pointless!" |
